Best Time to Visit the Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands are a British overseas territory consisting of three islands: Little Cayman, Cayman Brac and the popular and most-visited Grand Cayman. Islands of remarkable beaches, exciting nightlife and enough adventures for an entire family, the Cayman Islands is one of the best destinations to spend your vacation. But when is the best time to go? This is important as things like bad weather, or too many people or expensive flights can quickly put a damper in a perfect holiday.

The Cayman Islands see a Rainy season spanning from about May to November, with July to October being typically the hottest months of the year, and comparatively December to February being the coolest.

Hurricane season is from June to November, with September being the worst month. Fortunately, the Cayman Islands is one of a few Caribbean Islands not often affected by hurricanes, and if there is to be a hurricane enough warnings and safety precautions will be put in place to ensure your safety.

The rainy season means that September to November is the best time for those looking to go to the Cayman Islands on a budget — there are typically fewer tourists due which means flight prices, hotel prices and the price of certain tourist attractions have been reduced. However, for those who would prefer a drier holiday, February to March may be recommended as there is a much lower chance of precipitation during that time.

The busiest times (High Season) for tourism are usually either July, due to the increase of children being on Summer Vacation, or December to February, again for the better weather and the holidays being during this time — any flights or villa reservations for this period should be made in advance as there are fewer availabilities than usual as well as higher prices.

Going to the Islands on certain months also means you get to witness several of the events the locals put on during the year. Grand Cayman hosts their annual Batabano Carnival in May, a two-day event allowing guests to see first-hand the vibrant, colourful festivities of the Cayman culture (It is not a sight to miss!)

The Annual “Flowers Sea Swim” is held in June, where over 1000 individuals take to the beautiful Cayman Seven Mile Beach and compete in a mile-long swim race with potential prizes valued at over $100,000 and all entry fees (60 USD to participate, 25 USD to watch) donated to local charities. There is also Cayman’s Islandwide Marathon, which is held in December, and the “Taste of Cayman” Food Festival being held every year.

Due to Covid-19 travel to the Cayman Islands have been restricted, with borders and airports being temporarily closed to all non-essential travel until at least September 1, 2020.

Not to worry though, there is more than enough information to help you plan out your amazing trip in the 2021-2022 trip! It will be worth the wait, I can assure you.
